The United States does not yet see a serious ground offensive by the Russian army, but it may begin when the ground becomes firmer. This was announced at a briefing by White House representative John Kirby.
According to him, the massive Russian attack on Ukraine on the morning of January 23 indicates attempts to "break the will and backbone" of Ukrainians.
"We do not see much movement on the front. Neither side has made much progress, and we don't see any serious push by the Russians for any ground offensive. And I don't rule out that they won't try to do so when the ground gets firmer," Kirby said.
He noted that the enemy is also trying to destroy Ukrainian air defense systems, but is not achieving its goals.
"So it's partly an attempt to break the backbone of the Ukrainian people, but it's also an attempt to force the Ukrainians to continue to use ammunition," the official said.
