Turkish Parliament approves Sweden's membership in NATO

Turkey's parliament has approved Sweden's accession to NATO after months of debate. According to Bloomberg, the plenary session of the parliament in Ankara voted to accept Sweden's application on January 23.

The publication noted that after the vote, the document was sent to Turkish President Recep Erdogan for final signature before being deposited with the US State Department in Washington.

As a reminder, any state's accession to NATO requires the unanimous approval of all NATO member states. Only Hungary has not yet ratified Sweden's application.

As we reported earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that he had invited Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson to Budapest, and the main topic of their meeting would be negotiations on Sweden's accession to NATO.
