On January 9, the United States and its allies issued a joint statement opposing arms supplies between North Korea and Russia. In particular, they condemned Moscow's purchase of North Korean ballistic missiles, which it has probably already used to attack Ukraine.
"We are deeply concerned about the security implications of this cooperation for Europe, the Korean Peninsula, the Indo-Pacific region, and the world," the statement signed by the foreign ministers of 50 countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Germany, reads.
They noted that Pyongyang's transfer of ballistic missiles and other weapons to Moscow "flagrantly violates numerous UN resolutions."
The signatories emphasized that they are closely monitoring what Russia gives to North Korea in exchange.
"As long as Russia launches waves of missiles and drones against the Ukrainian people, we will continue to stand together in support of Ukraine. We also call on the DPRK to respond to the many and genuine offers to return to diplomacy, the only way to lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula," the statement said.
