Orban's presidency in the European Council will not harm Ukraine - Kuleba

During a telethon, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba assured that the theoretical appointment of Viktor Orban as interim president of the European Council, as well as the Hungarian presidency of the EU Council in the second half of 2024, would not negatively affect Ukraine.

The Foreign Minister reminded that the European Union, according to the current President of the European Council Charles Michel, has another six months to elect his successor after Michel takes part in the European Parliament elections.

"You know, as my grandmother used to say, 'we have survived the famine, we will survive the prosperity'. Even if Orban fulfills these duties for six months, he will still preside over the European Union during this time, since Hungary holds the presidency. We will survive these six months," the minister said.

Kuleba noted that Kyiv is working "very intensively" on the European track and has a clear plan and a clear understanding of "where we are moving, who works with whom, what is the schedule for decision-making and advocacy of these decisions."

"We, unlike Russia, are all democracies, and therefore we need to be prepared for any change can happen in any country at any time," the Foreign Minister explained.
