The Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence has comments on almost all 73 pages of the draft law on mobilization, said Roman Kostenko, the committee's secretary. He added that he could not give any figures on mobilization and engagement of personnel.
"The draft law is 73 pages long. And our main task, since there are a lot of questions to many of the provisions that are there, almost on every page, is to understand how the "main customers" see it," Kostenko said during the telethon.
According to him, the relevant committee will decide how the draft law can be finalized. MPs can return it back to the government or vote in the Rada and work out amendments between the first and second readings.
"The committee's decision itself, which we will recommend after studying it, may be by the end of the week," said the MP.
Kostenko also said that the meeting of the committee on January 4 was attended by Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Valeriy Zaluzhnyi and Chief of the General Staff Serhiy Shaptala. They voiced their vision of the implementation of the draft law and the most sensitive provisions.
As we reported earlier, Zaluzhnyi opposed the recruitment of prisoners to the Armed Forces and suggested that deputies go to war.
