The European Union will continue to support Ukraine despite Hungary's opposition. Other member states can act even without Budapest. This was reported by a spokesman for the German Federal Foreign Office, quoted by Handelsblatt.
According to the speaker, support for Ukraine will continue in any case.
"For us, as the German government, it is obvious that the fund for Ukraine remains the best and most sustainable solution in our opinion," he added, referring to the plan to secure 50 billion euros of financial assistance in future EU budgets.
The speaker emphasized that even without Hungary's support, the other 26 EU countries could take the necessary measures. However, he refrained from commenting on specific steps in this direction.
Information from other sources also indicates that an alternative plan is being developed, which may include an intergovernmental agreement between the 26 EU members without Hungary's participation, or guarantees from these countries to obtain loans from the European Commission.
However, a representative of the German Foreign Ministry emphasized that securing financial support in the EU budget remains a priority for his government.
