Ministry of Finance: Ukraine's public debt reached a record $140.82 billion in November 2023

Ukraine's total public debt increased by $4.48 billion in November 2023. Thus, as of the 30th, the amount of debt rose to a record high of $140.82 billion. Such data was released by the Ministry of Finance.

The ministry estimated that in November the amount of public and publicly guaranteed debt increased by 164.27 billion in hryvnia and by 4.48 billion dollars in dollars.

"The state and state-guaranteed debt amounted to UAH 5,122.49 billion or USD 140.82 billion, including: state and state-guaranteed external debt - UAH 3,512.77 billion (68.58% of the total state and state-guaranteed debt), or USD 96.57 billion. The state and state-guaranteed domestic debt amounted to UAH 1,609.72 billion (31.42%), or USD 44.25 billion," the statement said.

At the same time, debt growth accelerated in November. This was influenced by the involvement of the next tranche of macro-financial assistance from the EU, a loan from the World Bank and the placement of government bonds.

Since the Russian invasion, the national debt has almost doubled - +87.6% or UAH 2.3 trillion. And in the debt structure, it increased from 60.9% to 68.6%.

As a reminder, the International Monetary Fund predicts that Ukraine's total public debt will increase to 88.1% of GDP by the end of this year. Next year, according to experts, the public debt will increase to 98.6% of GDP, and reach a peak of 100.7% in 2025, after which it will begin to gradually decline.
