The US Congress went on Christmas break. American lawmakers are expected to return to discussions on Ukraine in early January. This was reported by Reuters.
This week, congressmen left Washington for a long vacation. Senate Democratic Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said that Congress would return on January 8.
According to Reuters, the US Congress will face difficult challenges upon its return. In particular, lawmakers will have to resolve the financial issue of aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, as well as reach an agreement on changes in immigration legislation.
In addition, the agenda will include budget issues, as the deadlines for funding government programs are January 19 and February 2.
Recently, before leaving Washington, Senate Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell echoed Democrat Schumer's statement that a combination of immigration reform in the United States and foreign military aid is needed "from South Texas to Southeast Asia to the Red Sea."
Both Schumer and McConnell acknowledged that enacting the first major immigration changes in four decades is a challenge, and that this also applies to the budget.
