According to a Politico report, the US Congress is preparing to introduce a new bill that would impose sanctions on Georgian officials who promote the “foreign agents” law. According to this draft law, it is possible to freeze assets and travel bans for the relevant persons.


The draft law states that the Georgian ruling party Georgian Dream demonstrates “accommodation with Russia” and an “illiberal turn”. It also expresses concern about Georgia's ties to Russia and China, including attacks on organizations that promote democracy.


The bill is expected to be introduced on Monday and will provide for informing Congress about undue political influence and corruption in Georgia, as well as Russian and Chinese intelligence activities in the country.
