The US Senate has passed a defense policy bill that allocates a record $886 billion in annual military spending. It also includes a small amount of aid to Ukraine, Reuters reports.
The document was supported by both Republicans and Democrats.
It extends one measure of assistance to Ukraine - the Security Assistance Initiative - until the end of 2026, allowing $300 million to be allocated for the program in the current fiscal year (through September 30, 2024) and the next.
"However, this figure is tiny compared to the $61 billion in aid to Ukraine that Biden has asked Congress to approve," the publication notes.
