Norway allocates $800 million in aid to Ukraine (UPDATED)

Norway will provide an additional $800 million in financial and humanitarian aid to Ukraine. This was announced by Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Har Støre during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.


"Today Norway announces clear additional support for Ukraine. I want to share this information with you. The Ukrainian government must pay nurses, doctors, teachers and other workers," said Støre.


He noted that in this way Norway will help with $1 billion of support from the United States for 2023, which is ending.


"We are also stepping up our financial and humanitarian support with about $800 million this year. We also want to announce that we will support the Ukrainian people in 2024 from the first months," the Norwegian prime minister emphasized.

In total, Norway promises to provide Ukraine with $1.8 billion next year:

- $800 million for financial and humanitarian support;

- $1 billion to pay salaries and benefits to nurses, doctors, teachers and other state employees.


Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gan Støre announced direct economic support, in particular for critical infrastructure, next year. At the same time, Norway has a 5-year package of support for Ukraine's defense, economy, and recovery. Norway is also increasing the production of ammunition to help Kyiv.
