Ukraine's president "pleaded" the Americans to approve a new aid package, but left Washington without a clear agreement, Bloomberg reports.

According to the agency, Zelensky told US senators about the risk of a guerrilla war in Ukraine if the West does not provide new aid. The Ukrainian president also told American senators that Ukraine "will conscript men over the age of 45."

"Zelensky, who enjoyed a standing ovation on his first visit to Capitol Hill a year ago, met with a cooler reception in closed-door meetings with lawmakers on Tuesday. Last December, he told a jubilant joint session of Congress that "Ukraine is alive and well." This time, he told lawmakers that his country will conscript men over 45 and may have to resort to guerrilla warfare as aid from the United States and its European allies becomes scarcer," the publication writes.

However, it is not entirely clear what this means. In Ukraine, men under 60 have been subject to mobilization since the beginning of the war. Zelensky probably meant that Ukraine will have to recruit soldiers of older age groups to the army to fill the gaps in the personnel.  At the same time, it has long been said in Ukraine that there is a high proportion of people aged 40-50 among those mobilized.

Republican Senator Roger Wicker told the publication that the aid could be approved in early January.

"The house is not on fire," he said about Ukraine's need for ammunition and other weapons.

While the negotiations in Congress continues, analysts and lawmakers say there is a workaround: continue to supply weapons from US stockpiles in the hope of waiting for money to replace them. According to Pentagon estimates, the US can still send Ukraine $4.6 billion worth of military equipment under the so-called Presidential Authorization to reduce the number of troops.
