The Union of Carriers of Slovakia (UNAS) announced on Facebook that it is going to block the Vysne Nemecke checkpoint on the border with Ukraine starting December 1. This is the only road crossing point for cargo on this section of the border.
The head of UNAS, Stanislav Skala, demands measures to limit competition on the part of Ukrainian carriers.
According to Skala, his organization will wait until November 30 for the response of the Ministry of Transport before making a final decision on the blockade. He said that a meeting of European transport ministers will be held in Brussels on December 4, but he does not have high hopes for any breakthrough, Reuters reports.
"It seems that neither the Ukrainian side nor the (European) Commission wants to back down," he said.
As a reminder, Slovak carriers demand from the European Union to restore the permit system for Ukrainian drivers entering the EU and for EU drivers entering Ukraine, with exceptions for humanitarian aid and military cargo.
