Ukraine wants to rename settlements in Crimea in the Crimean Tatar language

Ukraine wants to rename settlements in Crimea so that they have names in the Crimean Tatar language, the Ministry of Reintegration reports.


Thus, the National Commission for the Crimean Tatar Language continues preparations for the implementation of the Law on the Condemnation and Prohibition of Propaganda of Russian Imperial Policy in Ukraine and Decolonization of Toponymy.


"Mechanisms are currently being agreed upon to allow the use of toponyms in Latin script in the media and scientific works. It will also be used on road signs and in the production of maps. For this purpose, communications will be conducted with operators of cartographic services and services that maintain such signs," the statement said.


The National Commission instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to develop a corresponding decision. The work will be carried out jointly by the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Ministry of Reintegration, the President's Permanent Representative in Crimea, the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people and the Institute of National Memory.
