Interior Ministry spokesman on the death of Zaluzhnyi's assistant: It was an accident

The person who gave the grenades to Valeriy Zaluzhnyi's assistant, confessed to it. He said that he had warned Gennadiy Chastyakov that the grenades were live. But he apparently did not believe him. This was reported by Interior Ministry spokeswoman Mariana Reva during a telethon.

"The person who allegedly gave these gifts confessed. He warned that they were combat grenades. The deceased probably did not believe this information. During the initial investigative actions, it was established that it was indeed a careless handling of the ammunition, and all the evidence collected indicates that it was an accident," Reva said.

The Interior Ministry spokeswoman added that investigators had been working at the scene all night, including seizing objects that looked like grenades. They will be sent for examination to determine what kind of munitions they are.

Later, it will be established how these munitions were obtained and on what grounds they were transferred to other persons. According to the Interior Ministry spokesperson, this is a large set of measures and investigative actions aimed at establishing what really happened.
