It is impossible to hold elections during martial law, but it is necessary to discuss how to hold them after the war, says Oleksandr Kornienko, First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada.
"It's impossible to hold them right now, martial law is in effect... Discussing post-war elections does not mean that elections should be held tomorrow. But it is necessary to discuss it. And we need to find ways to express the will of the people in the post-war period," Kornienko said on the air of the national telethon on Friday.
According to Kornienko, it is necessary to discuss the holding of elections after the war with the parliaments of different countries, their election administration bodies, and at the government level.
He emphasized that the issue of organizing post-war elections is not simple and requires very large resources: organizational, financial, and physical.
"We will have to pass a law and establish new temporary rules. And we will have to resolve the issue of voting by our immigrants abroad. In particular, this requires cooperation with other countries," the First Deputy Speaker noted.
