Slovakia's new prime minister opposes aid to Ukraine (UPDATED)

Slovakia's new Prime Minister Robert Fico has confirmed that he will not support military aid to Ukraine, as he said during the election campaign, Aktuality reports.

He made this statement in a speech to members of the Parliamentary Committee on European Affairs before the leaders' summit in Brussels.

"It is better to negotiate peace for 10 years than to kill each other for 10 years without any result," he said.

The prime minister added that, in his opinion, at this stage of the war, Russia has "greater territorial achievements than Ukraine."

Fico also called Zelensky’s peace plan "unrealistic".

In his opinion, Russia and the USA should negotiate, while the EU should turn from an "arms supplier" to Ukraine into a "peacemaker".
