The US Senate may block the allocation of a $106 billion financial aid package proposed by US President Joe Biden, Politico reports.
According to the publication, Republicans are divided over whether to combine aid to Israel and Ukraine. Even some supporters of the four key areas of assistance - Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan, and southern border support - are uncharacteristically pessimistic after the first discussion of the bill.
The Senate Appropriations Committee will reportedly hold a hearing on Biden's request in a week.
"They should be separated. The Israeli component has almost overwhelming support, and we can get that done very quickly. I just think that from a tactical standpoint, it's just the best approach," said Florida Senator Marco Rubio, a Republican.
For his part, Republican Lindsey Graham supported the adoption of the new financial aid package as an extended package.
"I want the entire package to be implemented. These are four national security issues, and we must solve them as a whole," he said.
However, according to a number of sources, the complexity of the large legislative act could lead to its demise.
