There will be no more "urban-type settlements" in Ukraine

President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed Law No. 8263 on the de-Sovietization of the procedure for resolving certain issues of Ukraine's administrative and territorial structure. Now there will be no such thing as an "urban-type settlement" in the country. This was reported by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak on Telegram.

According to him, the document has been awaiting the President's signature for more than three months.

In particular, the draft law proposes to remove the Soviet regulation of administrative structure, which has been in force since 1981, to establish clear procedures for classifying settlements as cities, towns, and villages, to enshrine in law the procedure for naming and renaming settlements, to simplify the procedures for establishing the boundaries of settlements, and so on.

Among other things, the initiative abolishes the concept of "urban-type settlement" (UTS). A new concept is introduced - "settlement".
