Sweden considers supplying Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine

Discussions are currently underway in Sweden regarding the possible supply of Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine by the Swedish government, Politico reports.

According to the publication, the decision of Norway, Denmark, Belgium, and the Netherlands to provide Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets has made the issue of the Swedish government's transfer of Gripen fighter jets more relevant and more discussed.

If Sweden decides to supply the aircraft, experts assume that the process will take about a year for preparation and delivery before the aircraft arrive in Ukraine. This time period is explained by the fact that pilots and engineers will need training to work with unfamiliar systems and adapt to new equipment.

It is noted that Gripen fighters can provide significant assistance to Ukraine in maintaining control over its airspace, as they are considered relatively affordable and easy to maintain. In addition, these aircraft are capable of operating on shorter and narrower runways, including makeshift strips on straight stretches of highways.

This reduces the risk of aircraft being crowded into a large base and destroyed by a single enemy attack. In addition, the aircraft have special equipment to counter Russian fighters and surface-to-air radar systems.
