Borrell: The EU cannot fully compensate for the lack of US aid to Ukraine

European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell expressed concern about how the uncertainty associated with budgetary problems in the United States affects the assistance provided to Ukraine. According to him, the events related to the US budget process and the absence of financial assistance to Ukraine in it create doubts about future support from Washington. He wrote about this in his blog after his visit to Ukraine.

"In the short term, we have not been able to compensate for the lack of US support, and we hope that our friends and allies will quickly find ways to break the deadlock," Borrell said.

He also emphasized that if this situation continues, the EU's responsibility will increase.

The diplomat emphasized that the EU is strengthening its defense cooperation with Ukraine and insists that peace be established on fair terms, taking into account Kyiv's interests.

"We have sent a strong signal to Russia: We continue and will continue to fully support Ukraine's fight for freedom and sovereignty," Borrell concluded.
