Dutch authorities have detained a Defense Ministry official on charges of illegally selling aircraft parts to Russia through third countries in violation of European Union sanctions. This was reported by Euractiv.
The arrest of the 48-year-old man from the city of Arnhem took place after a search conducted on August 30 on investigative information.
It is noted that the detainee also works for the Dutch Ministry of Defense. During the search, documents, digital media and ammunition were seized from the official.
Also, a 53-year-old accomplice who provided information to the investigation was arrested the day before the arrest of the main accused.
Both men are accused of exporting spare parts to Russia through third countries after the start of a full-scale war in Ukraine and the imposition of EU sanctions in February last year.
