Representatives of Russia and Belarus were invited to the Nobel Prize ceremony. Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko criticized the decision on his Facebook page.
Nikolenko said: "The Nobel Foundation has decided to resume the practice of inviting the ambassadors of Russia and Belarus to the Nobel Prize ceremony. This decision is explained by the desire to directly prove their values even to those states that oppose them. It is a Sisyphean task to prove the values of humanism in Russia and Belarus."
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson emphasized that while the Russian ambassador will be present at the ceremony at the Stockholm Concert Hall, Russian troops will continue to commit war crimes in the temporarily occupied territories, and Russian missiles will hit Ukrainian cities.
Nikolenko believes that such an invitation is perceived in the Kremlin as a signal of impunity and motivates new crimes.
"As long as it continues (Russian aggression - ed.), as long as millions of Ukrainians suffer from an unprovoked war and the Russian leadership is not punished for its crimes, we call on the organizing committee to support international efforts to isolate Russia and Belarus," the Foreign Ministry representative emphasized.
