Two Ukrainian Mi-8 helicopters crashed during a combat mission (UPDATED)

During a military operation in Donetsk region, an aviation accident occurred in which two Ukrainian Mi-8 helicopters crashed. Ilya Yevlash, the head of the press service of the Eastern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, shared the details of the incident in a commentary to the media.

Yevlash said that the tragedy took place in the Kramatorsk district, but the exact circumstances of the incident remain unclear.

According to some reports, a Russian Su-35 fighter jet was in the sky at the time of the crash, while Ukrainian helicopters were performing a landing maneuver. This tactic was used to avoid possible attacks.

"Yes, indeed, there was a plane crash involving two Mi-8 helicopters. They were on a combat mission. An enemy Su-35 fighter jet was flying overhead while they were performing their mission," Yevlash said.

However, he emphasized that the information on the number of casualties needs additional confirmation.

"But the head of the press service of the 18th separate army aviation brigade has previously reported that there were six victims," the official said.
