The leader of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, has expressed his opinion on the possible connection between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the death of Yevgeny Prigozhin. According to Lukashenko, he does not believe that Putin could have been behind this event, Belarusian media reports.
"I cannot say who did it. I will not become a lawyer even for my older brother. But I know Putin. He is a prudent, very calm and even slow person when making decisions on other, less complicated issues. So I cannot imagine that Putin did this, that Putin is to blame. Too rough, unprofessional work, for that matter," Lukashenko emphasized.
The Belarusian leader also noted that Yevgeny Prigozhin had never asked him to provide him with security guarantees.
"To answer this question directly: I don't have to ensure Prigozhin's safety. This is first of all. Secondly, the conversation has never been in this way," the head of Belarus said.
Lukashenko also shared two occasions when he discussed security with Prigozhin: during the coup, he offered to "send a rope and a bar of soap" to the PMC head, and later in Minsk he "categorically warned" Prigozhin and Utkin.
