According to Reuters, the USA has expressed its approval to send F16 fighters to Ukraine from Denmark and the Netherlands after the training of Ukrainian pilots is completed.
The information says that Washington has given official guarantees to Denmark and the Netherlands on the accelerated approval of all necessary formalities for the transfer of F16 fighter jets to Ukraine as soon as the training of Ukrainian pilots is completed.
Denmark and the Netherlands recently submitted a request for such guarantees. An unnamed US official said US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken had sent letters to his counterparts in those countries, assuring them that the requests would be granted.
"I am writing to express the full support of the United States for both the transfer of F16 fighter jets to Ukraine and the training of Ukrainian pilots by qualified F16 instructors," the secretary of state's letter said.
Blinken emphasized that it is important for Ukraine to be able to defend itself against Russian aggression and violation of its sovereignty. He also noted that the transfer of the fighter jets would allow Ukraine to fully use its new capabilities as soon as the first group of pilots successfully completes training.
