NATO Secretary General's Chief of Staff Stian Jensen has expressed an opinion on a potential agreement between Ukraine and Russia, under which Ukraine could become a NATO member in exchange for the transfer of part of its territory to Russia. Although such a scenario is undesirable, Jensen believes that such a scenario is possible, Verdens Gang reports.
At a public debate in Arendal, Norway, Mr. Jensen said: "I think that the solution could be for Ukraine to give up the territory and get NATO membership instead. At the same time, Ukraine should decide when and on what terms it wants to negotiate."
He also clarified that negotiations on the post-war status of Ukraine are already in progress, and he is not the only one who raises the issue of ceding territory to Russia.
"I am not saying that this should happen. But this could be a possible solution," Jensen emphasized, adding that there are currently significant movements on the issue of Ukraine's possible accession to NATO.
