More than $6 billion in aid to Ukraine, which was discovered after an accounting error, may be spent not only in this fiscal year but also in the next. This was announced by Pentagon spokesman General Pat Ryder during a briefing on August 10.
As for what kind of equipment the funds will be used for, Ryder emphasized that this will be discussed directly with Ukrainian representatives and partners.
The United States plans to more than triple the production of artillery shells, the Pentagon said.
"We will decide this in the process of a dialog with the Ukrainians and our allies and partners. In terms of funding, we have now recovered and can use the $6.2 billion that was discovered through the Pentagon's accounting error in previously appropriated funds. These funds will be available for use both in the current fiscal year and in the next," he said.
It is also reported that the Pentagon has unused an additional $600 million to help Ukraine, which was previously allocated as part of the Supplemental Appropriations Act for Ukraine."As well as about $600 million that was allocated as part of the supplemental appropriations act for Ukraine, which remains unused. These funds also have a two-year term of use," Ryder emphasized.
It is noted that the Pentagon also has unused $600 million in aid to Ukraine, allocated earlier as part of the supplemental appropriations law.
Ryder emphasized that the Pentagon will continue to work closely with Ukraine and interagency agencies to ensure that the necessary assistance is provided.
"We are confident that we will be able to continue supporting Ukraine for as long as necessary," the Pentagon spokesman added.
