ISW: The armed forces are advancing in several directions

According to the Ukrainian General Staff, the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue counteroffensives on several fronts, in particular, in the Bakhmut, Berdiansk, and Melitopol.

Based on published geolocation images on August 10 Ukrainian troops crossed the Mokri Yaly River and continued their movement eastward to the southwestern outskirts of Urozhayne, which is located on the border of Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions. Troops achieved partial success in the direction of Urozhayne, as well as to the south and southeast of Staromayroske.

On August 9, the Ukrainian authorities announced the mandatory evacuation of civilians from 53 settlements in Kupyansk district of Kharkiv region due to the increase in Russian shelling and air strikes in settlements around the front line. According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Russian troops have taken up positions northeast of Kupyansk within artillery range, and the increased activity of Russian offensive operations in the area poses a significant risk to civilians in Kupyansk and nearby settlements. According to ISW, the evacuation in the Kupyansk area does not necessarily mean that Ukrainian forces expect a significant Russian offensive in the area.
