For the first time in 8 years, the summit of the European Union with the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) will take place. The leaders of the states will discuss the war against Ukraine.

 This is reported by ARA.

The summit will be held on July 17-18 in Brussels. Heads of state and government from 60 countries will take part in it. Among them are 27 EU countries and 33 Latin American and Caribbean countries.

"Among the key issues are the position regarding Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine and economic relations," the report says.

Officially, the goal of the summit is to restore the partnership of the two regions of the world "for the purpose of strengthening peace and sustainable development." EU High Representative Josep Borrell called closer relations with Latin America a "strategic necessity."

A number of cooperation agreements are also expected to be signed on the sidelines of the summit.

Latin American countries and the war in Ukraine

The majority of Latin American countries take a neutral position regarding Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine. In particular, the largest states of the continent - Colombia, Brazil, Mexico and Argentina - refused to provide weapons to our military at the request of the United States.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyі, hopes that Spain, which presides over the European Union, will help our country gain influence in Latin America.
