France will provide Ukraine with long-range SCALP missiles to protect against Russian aggression. This was announced by French President Emmanuel Macron on July 11 before the start of the NATO summit in Vilnius, Le Figaro reports with reference to AFP.
Guided missiles of the "air-to-ground" class SCALP (abbreviation of Système de croisier conventionale autonome a longue portêt) are designed to hit long-range stationary targets, the publication writes.
"We have decided to hand over new long-range missiles to Ukraine. I think that today it is important for us to send a signal of support for Ukraine, NATO unity," Macron said.
Also, Norway will increase its military aid to Ukraine by 2.5 billion crowns ($240 million) this year to 10 billion crowns.
This was announced by the Norwegian government.
As Norwegian Prime Minister Gar Stere stated, Ukraine is now in dire need of additional military support and materials.
The increase in support will be made within the framework of the Nansen program, which is designed for 75 billion crowns for five years. Norway previously committed to providing 15 billion kroner in civilian and military support in 2023 as part of the program.
In addition, Norway will also give more funds to the NATO Ukraine Support Fund. Norway will provide NOK 300 million in 2023 and contribute a total of NOK 1.5 billion over five years.
According to Stere, this is a clear signal of long-term support for Ukraine's reform efforts, which will further tie Ukraine to NATO.
Berlin's new military aid package for Kyiv will include air defense equipment, infantry fighting vehicles, shells and drones with a total cost of about 600 million euros.
This is reported by Spiegel with reference to its sources.
The provision of this package should be announced after lunch on July 11 during the NATO summit in Vilnius. With this help, Berlin seeks to demonstrate that Germany remains among the countries that provide the most support to Ukraine.
According to Spiegel, the new package includes several Patriot launchers and other surface-to-air weapons from the Bundeswehr stockpile.
In addition, these are additional Marder BMPs, Leopard 1 tanks, demining equipment, about 20 thousand artillery shells and shells for Leopard tanks, as well as several drones for reconnaissance.
Of the entire package, Patriot launchers and missiles are probably the most strategically significant for Ukraine. For the Bundeswehr, this is certainly not an easy gift, since Germany's own reserves are also small.
Meanwhile, the dpa agency, citing its sources, reports that the value of the package is even higher - almost 700 million euros.
