Iran was sued at the UN International Court of Justice for the downing of the UIA plane

Canada, Sweden, Ukraine and Great Britain filed a lawsuit at the UN International Court of Justice in The Hague. In this way, it is planned to ensure that Iran is brought to justice for the illegal downing of Flight PS752 of Ukraine International Airlines in 2020.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

As noted in the notice, Iran has not responded to the demand for the establishment of arbitration to resolve this dispute, sent on December 28, 2022. Therefore, proceedings will be initiated against Iran in connection with its violation of the 1971 Convention for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against the Safety of Civil Aviation.

According to the lawsuit, Iran failed, among other violations, to take all possible measures to prevent the destruction of flight PS752 by members of its armed forces. Iran also failed to conduct a full, transparent and impartial pre-trial investigation and trial in accordance with international standards.

"The joint action at the International Court of Justice reflects our unwavering commitment to achieving transparency, justice and accountability for all the families of the victims of flight PS752," the statement said.
