The German armaments concern Rheinmetall will hand over 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine on behalf of the government of the Netherlands.
This is reported by Tagesschau.
Rheinmetall announced that the order is worth three-digit million euros. A corresponding agreement was also reached with the German federal government.
It is noted that the first of 14 main battle tanks should be delivered to Ukraine in January 2024, and the rest - during 2024.
We are talking about Leopard 2A4 tanks, which Rheinmetall took over from previous stocks in various states that had them in service.
Tank coalition for Ukraine
Allies of Ukraine created a tank coalition in order to arm the Ukrainian military with more modern equipment. The authorities of a number of European countries and Canada have decided to transfer German Leopard 2 to Ukraine, some of which have already arrived.
At the same time, in mid-June, Ukraine asked Germany for more Leopard 2 tanks for a counteroffensive.
In addition, at the end of last month, Spain announced the delivery of four more Leopard 2s to Ukraine.
