Prime Minister of Israel on aid to Ukraine: we are in a different position than Western countries

Israel is in a different position than Western countries regarding the war in Ukraine. Therefore, Jerusalem does not provide Kyiv with military aid, including weapons.

This was announced by the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, in an interview with The Jerusalem Post.

"I think Israel is in a special situation, which is different from, say, Poland, Germany, France or any of the Western countries that help Ukraine. First, we have a close military border with Russia. Our pilots fly next to with Russian ones in the sky of Syria," he said.

According to the Prime Minister, Israel is afraid that the weapons that Jerusalem will provide to Ukraine may reach Iran and be used against it.

"And, by the way, this is not a theoretical possibility. This is what happened with the Western anti-tank weapons that we now find near our borders. So we have to be very careful here," Netanyahu added.

The Prime Minister emphasized that Israel sympathizes with the Ukrainians and monitors the situation. He did not rule out that Israel could help settle the war.

"I believe that we are also in a special situation where we may find ourselves in the future in a position to help put an end to this conflict. I am not sure that this will happen. It can be quite hypothetical, but it could happen," the politician emphasized.

According to Netanyahu, Israel's position on the war in Ukraine is correct, in particular, that the country does not transfer weapons, but helps with the warning system about the threat from the sky.

 Israel's position

It will be recalled that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Israel has declared its neutrality regarding Russia's war against Ukraine. Jerusalem does not support Russian aggression, but it also does not provide military aid to Ukraine.

Recently, according to the media, Israel rejected Ukraine's request for the transfer of Hawk anti-aircraft systems, which are necessary to destroy Russian missiles.

In addition, Ukraine called on Israel to act as a mediator in the war, but Jerusalem did not officially agree.
