The EU will offer Ukraine financial aid worth 50 billion euros - Bloomberg

The European Union is ready to offer a package of financial aid in the amount of about 50 billion euros to support Ukraine.

This was reported to the Bloomberg agency by sources familiar with the preparation of the plan.

According to the interlocutors of the agency, the proposal of the European Commission will help to finance the current expenses of the Ukrainian government and to pay for urgent reconstruction priorities.

As the agency notes, the financial aid will be announced on Tuesday before the conference in London, where donors will discuss the restoration of Ukraine.

The European Commission wants to avoid a burdensome instrument for Ukraine in view of the war and will offer help in the form of grants, soft loans and guarantees, sources say.

According to one of the anonymous sources, unlike previous financial packages for Ukraine, the plan will be financed by contributions from member states, not market loans.

The package aims to combine aid used to pay wages, pensions and some public services with costs associated with rebuilding basic infrastructure.

The money will be allocated on the condition that Ukraine implements reforms aimed at improving the rule of law and fighting corruption.

The aid package appeared at a time when Ukraine is launching a counteroffensive to recapture territories captured by the Russian Federation.

The conference on the restoration of Ukraine will be held on June 21-22 in London.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that during the conference the authorities will focus on three main aspects: rapid recovery, attraction of private investments, development of regions.
