IAEA mission rotations took place at all Ukrainian nuclear power plants

Last week, rotations of experts from permanent monitoring missions of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) were successfully conducted at all Ukrainian nuclear power plants.

This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with a link to the Facebook of the State Nuclear Regulation Inspection of Ukraine.

The department reminded that the permanent missions of the IAEA at Ukrainian nuclear power plants were introduced at the official invitation of Ukraine in order to monitor the state of security at nuclear power plants in the conditions of Russian military aggression.

A permanent monitoring group has been working at the occupied Zaporizhzhya NPP since September 2022. During this time, there have already been two delays in changing the composition of the IAEA mission at the ZNPP.

At the Chernobyl, Rivne, South Ukrainian and Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plants, permanent IAEA monitoring missions began their activities in January 2023.

"Rotations at these NPPs are carried out smoothly and on time," the State Nuclear Regulatory Commission noted.

 The situation at Zaporizhzhya NPP

The Russian army seized the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in the first weeks of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The Russians placed military equipment at the station, mined the area and shelled it. Also, the occupiers constantly terrorize the personnel of the ZNPP and the residents of the city of Energodar.

In September, the IAEA placed a permanent mission at the Zaporizhzhуа NPP to monitor the situation at Europe's largest nuclear power plant.

In addition, after the Russians blew up the Kakhovskaya HPP, there was a threat of the impossibility of cooling the reactors of the ZNPP, which require water from the Kakhovskaya Reservoir.

On June 15, IAEA Director General Raphael Grossi visited the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhya NPP. His visit to the ZNPP was supposed to take place earlier, but it was postponed. The reason was the security situation.

After the visit, Grossi reported that the situation at the Zaporizhzhуа nuclear power plant is serious after the destruction of the Kakhovskaya HPP. However, it is in the process of stabilization.
