Britain today, June 19, introduced legislation that would allow it to maintain sanctions against Russia until Moscow pays compensation.
This was stated by the head of the British Foreign Ministry, James Cleverley, as reported by Reuters.
"As Ukraine continues to defend itself against the Russian invasion, the dire consequences of the war are obvious. Ukraine's recovery needs are enormous and will continue to be enormous," the statement said.
Cleverley added that thanks to such new measures, the UK will strengthen its approach to sanctions.
According to him, this confirms the fact that Great Britain is ready to use sanctions to ensure that Russia pays for the restoration of Ukraine.
British sanctions against Russia
From the very beginning of the invasion of Ukraine, Britain introduced a number of sanctions against the Russian Federation. Hundreds of individuals and legal entities have fallen under the restrictions, the country regularly announces new packages of restrictions and continues to work on the development of new sanctions.
Recently, as part of new sanctions against Belarus, Great Britain introduced export restrictions and also tried to close loopholes for Russia to circumvent the sanctions.
Also on Friday, May 19, Great Britain introduced additional sanctions against Russia. The list includes 86 Russians and companies, in particular, "Rosbank" and "Tinkoff Bank", 9 organizations related to "Rosatom".
