US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin opened the 13th meeting of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine (Ramstein-style meeting) on Thursday in Brussels. The broadcast is conducted on the website of the Pentagon.
Austin began the meeting by mentioning the new attacks of the Russian army on Ukraine, as well as the destruction of the Kakhovskaya HPP.
According to him, this is another reminder of the devastating consequences of war for civil society.
The head of the Pentagon also noted that "we will continue to support Ukraine" and that the allies are united.
Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov arrived in Brussels for the meeting.
The day before, the head of the Ukrainian Defense Department, Oleksiy Reznikov, outlined the key topics that will be the subject of negotiations. According to Reznikov, the main thing will be the deepening and expansion of cooperation within the framework of the "aircraft coalition" being created. So far, it is only about the training of Ukrainian pilots on Western planes.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that amid the Ukrainian counteroffensive, allies at the Ramstein-style meeting will focus on providing support and ensuring that all delivered weapons systems work properly.
