Belarusian dictator Oleksandr Lukashenko has said his country has begun receiving Russian tactical nuclear weapons, which he says are three times more powerful than the atomic bombs dropped by the US on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. He said this in an interview with one of the propaganda channels, reports Reuters.
"We have missiles and bombs that we received from Russia. These bombs are three times more powerful than those that were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki," Lukashenko said.
Reuters notes that Lukashenko gave an interview near a military structure, which can be seen in the background.
This is the first deployment by Moscow of such warheads outside of Russia since the collapse of the Soviet Union, which could potentially be used on the battlefield, Reuters noted.
The two dictators previously agreed on a plan to deploy Russian short-range land-based nuclear missiles.
Last Friday, Vladimir Putin announced that Russia will begin deploying tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus after the facilities are ready on July 7-8.
