After the explosion of the Kakhovskaya HPP, inspections began in the Southern District, experts of the sanitation subservice found cholera and E. coli in the water, Oleg Pavlenko, head of the state supervision (control) department of land resources of the State Environmental Inspection of Ukraine, said during a round table.
"We monitor the Southern District, take water samples and conduct analyzes every day. There is no very high pollution, but there are already several cases of detection of cholera and Escherichia coli. The SES is doing analyzes in parallel with us, they are monitoring the sanitary-epidemiological situation, because a lot of settlements were flooded, all sewers, outbuildings, all of this was flooded. We investigate water pollution from chemistry, and they (sanitation service specialists - ed.) - from biology," Oleg Pavlenko said.
He also added that after the flooding is over, the wells can be used only after they are thoroughly cleaned and additional laboratory tests of water quality are carried out.
On June 6, 2023, around 3:00 a.m., the Russian military blew up the dam of the Kakhovskaya HPP in the Kherson region. Due to the explosion, the Kakhovskaya HPP was completely destroyed and cannot be restored.
The Ministry of Health warns that due to the massive sea of fish in the Dnipropetrovsk region and other regions, as a result of the terrorist destruction of the Kakhovskaya HPP by the Russians, it is necessary to be extremely careful. Do not eat dead fish and do not buy it in spontaneous trade because of the high risk of botulism.
