Josep Borrell, the European Union's high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, assures that Europe will continue to provide military support to Ukraine, despite the votes against it.
He said this in an interview with Onda Cero radio station.
"Currently, these joint efforts continue," Borrell says and claims that Eurostat polls show that the majority of the European population is in favor of continued support for Ukraine.
Despite this, he admits that "it is normal that the war in Ukraine attracts much more attention in the border countries, which have an immediate threat and have previous experience of what a Russian invasion means", than in Spain or Portugal, where public interest in it is weakening after more than a year of conflict.
Borel also criticizes those who advocate peace and the end of military support to Ukraine. "And what will happen next? If you stop helping Ukraine militarily, this does not mean that Russia will leave. We all want peace, but we must know what kind of world we want," he added.
The diplomat recalled that all the leaders who went to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin came back with the same answer, that "he has military objectives that need to be met, and until he meets them, he is not going to stop the war." .
In addition, a senior EU official claims that Putin may be waiting for elections in the United States to take place.
At the same time, he noted that if he "was a friend of Putin, like the Chinese, I would tell him that he made a huge mistake and he should correct it as soon as possible." "We expect China to influence Putin to stop this war," he says.
The diplomat emphasizes that "the goal can only be the withdrawal of Russia from the occupied territories."
