The President of Turkey, Recep Erdogan, proposed to involve Ukraine, Russia, the UN and Turkey in the international commission to investigate the causes of the explosion at the Kakhovskaya HPP. He said this during a conversation with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, Anadol reports.
According to the publication, Erdogan, in a conversation with his Ukrainian colleague Zelenskyi, announced the possibility of forming an international commission to investigate the causes of the explosion at the Kakhovskaya HPP.
The Communications Department of the Administration of the President of Turkey reported that during the telephone conversation, Erdoğan emphasized the readiness of the Turkish side to make a significant contribution to the initiative of creating an international commission on the Kakhov Reservoir.
According to the Turkish leader, the commission may include specialists from Ukraine and Russia, as well as the international community, in particular the UN and Turkey.
As the publication writes, Erdogan noted that in this matter, a method of dialogue similar to what took place in the issue of the "Grain Corridor" can be followed.
The Turkish leader emphasized that it is impossible to prevent human casualties against the background of the continuation of hostilities, therefore it is very important to focus on the issue of resuming the negotiation process. He assured that Ankara will continue its determined efforts to bring a just world closer.
On June 6, 2023, around 3:00 a.m., the Russian military blew up the dam of the Kakhovskaya HPP in the Kherson region. Due to the explosion, the Kakhovskaya HPP was completely destroyed and cannot be restored.
There is an additional threat to the Zaporizhzhya NPP, but the situation is under control, Energoatom noted.
Criminal proceedings on ecocide have been opened.
There is a threat of flooding up to 80 settlements. About 16,000 people were in the critical zone.
According to forecasts announced by the Kherson Regional State Administration, the water level will increase by about one meter in the next 20 hours.
