Germany may reconsider its position on modern fighter jets for Ukraine - Minister of Defense

The German government may reconsider its position regarding the possible supply of modern Western fighter jets to Ukraine.

This was stated by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius in an interview with DW.

"Right now we are in the rethinking phase and checking what is possible and what we want and can do. And I think we will decide within the next two weeks," he said.

According to Pistorius, Germany should rethink its policy of the last decades.

"German society and German politics have really changed their minds. If someone had told me two years ago that Germany would supply heavy weapons worth three to five billion euros, I would not have believed it," the head of the German Defense Ministry added.

Earlier, Pistorius said that Germany was considering options for supporting a coalition of countries that plan to train Ukrainian pilots to fly F-16 fighter jets, but he said that Berlin's possible contribution could be small.

At the same time, German Air Force Chief Ingo Gerhartz said Berlin could help with infrastructure or training.
