Due to riots between the Kosovo Special Police and Serbs in Zvečan, Zubin Potok and Leposavići, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called on Kosovo to de-escalate relations with Serbia.
This is reported by Reuters.
It is noted that Jens Stoltenberg discussed the situation between Kosovo and Serbia with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, and stated that both countries should participate in an EU-led dialogue
"Prishtina (Kosovo) should de-escalate and not take unilateral destabilizing steps," the NATO Secretary General noted.
On May 26, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic ordered the army to move to the border with Kosovo as dozens of Kosovo Serbs tried to prevent the newly sworn-in Albanian mayors from taking office. They boycotted these elections and consider them illegitimate.
The demonstrators built barricades, and then the Kosovo police began to disperse the Serbian protesters with tear gas.
