Unreachable for shelling: oil and gas reserves in Ukraine will be stored in underground storage facilities

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine will approve the list of underground facilities where energy resources will be stored. They will be inaccessible to the enemy.

This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during the government meeting.

As the prime minister noted, one of the strategic tasks of the government is the maximum accumulation and effective preservation of reserves both in wartime and in the long term. In particular, energy resources.

"Today we are approving the list of underground facilities where accumulated oil, gas, other substances and materials will be stored. This will allow us to equip and maintain reliable storage facilities that are inaccessible to the enemy and other threats," Shmyhal said.

In April, the gas storage operator of Ukraine "Ukrtransgaz" started a new season of pumping gas into underground storage facilities (SGS). In a letter of intent to the IMF leadership (Memorandum), the Ukrainian authorities estimated Naftogaz's gas import needs for the next heating season at 2 billion cubic meters.

We will remind you that the government of Ukraine has started preparations for the autumn-winter period. Deputy Minister of Energy Farid Safarov stated that more than $3.4 billion is needed to prepare for the next heating season. In particular, the amount is necessary both for the restoration of generation and the purchase of necessary resources.
