The Special Representative of the Secretary General of NATO in the South Caucasus and Central Asia, Javier Kolomina, said that the Alliance is concerned about the approval of the resumption of air traffic with the Russian Federation by the authorities of Georgia.
He said this during his visit to Tbilisi, "Georgia Online" reports.
"Our position is one of concern. We do not like this decision by Moscow, but it was a unilateral decision. The concern is more about the reactions that we saw from some members of your parliament, government officials, because this is a critical moment to continue supporting Ukraine, which is a priority for all of us and should be a priority for all our partners," Kolomina emphasized.
According to him, direct flights between Tbilisi and Moscow "create a certain space for the potential circumvention of sanctions against Russia."
"We've talked to the authorities about the work they're doing to prevent circumvention of sanctions, they're doing a good job in many ways, but the reactions we've seen, at least, cast a shadow over the potential that Russia will find some room here to circumvent sanctions." were quite clear that this should not happen, and we called on the authorities to take appropriate measures to prevent this," added the special representative of the NATO Secretary General.
