In Estonia, 3,859 Ukrainian refugees have completed studying the Estonian language at the A1 level, and another 4,195 are continuing the course.
Eda Silberg, deputy chancellor of the Ministry of Culture for cultural diversity, told Postimees about this.
It is noted that another 459 people have registered for courses and are waiting for them to start.
Language courses for refugees from Ukraine are financed from the budget of Estonia. In total, there are places for 10,000 people on the ordered training courses.
In addition, hundreds of recipients of temporary protection used other opportunities to learn the language and reach the required level, for example, through the Unemployment Insurance Fund or self-study in the electronic environment Keeleklikk and Keeletee.
Last year, Estonia allocated 4.5 million euros from the additional budget to offer 10,000 Ukrainian refugees with temporary protection status to study the Estonian language at the A1 level.
In the spring of this year, the government allocated another 4.5 million euros from its reserve so that another 10,000 Ukrainians who received temporary protection could learn the Estonian language at the A1 level.
The Estonian government also decided to allocate additional funds from the European Social Fund for language training of 4,200 military refugees at the A2 and B1 levels.
Training is currently underway, organized with the funds allocated last year. The funds allocated this year have not yet been used to order courses.
