During the last year, three scientists of the Novosibirsk Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics - Valery Zvegintsev, Anatoly Maslov and Oleksandr Shiplyuk - were detained and arrested in the Russian Federation on suspicion of treason.
This is stated in the open letter of the employees of the institute, which was published on the website on May 15.
Employees of the institute claim that their colleagues "always remained loyal to the interests" of the Russian Federation.
The Moscow Times writes that all three were engaged in the creation of hypersonic aircraft. In particular, according to the Reuters article, Maslov and Shiplyuk worked on the creation of hypersonic missiles for more than 10 years - in 2012, they presented the results of an experiment on the development of a hypersonic missile at a seminar in France.
In 2016, all three arrested were among the authors of a book chapter on hypersonic installations, the agency notes.
In the letter of employees of Zvehintsev, Maslov and Shiplyuk, it is stated that their scientific works were "repeatedly checked" by the institute's expert commission regarding "the presence of restricted access information in them, and no such information was found in them."
What exactly the missile developers are accused of is not officially reported. According to TARS propagandists, Zvehintsev was arrested because of an article in an Iranian magazine. The "Russian Air Force Service", referring to the Academ.info portal, writes that Maslov is suspected of providing China with data related to hypersound, which is a state secret. Zvehintsev, Maslov and Shiplyuk were arrested last in the summer of 2022.
The Moscow Times recalled that the president of the aggressor country, Vladimir Putin, announced the creation of hypersonic weapons in the Russian Federation in 2018. He then showed the Zircon anti-ship missile and the Zircon intercontinental ballistic missile. Putin also presented the Kinzhal missile complex.
He claimed that this complex is "guaranteed to overcome" existing and promising air defense and missile defense systems, but during the full-scale war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, it was confirmed that the Patriot air defense system hits the "Daggers".
