The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, and the Russian dictator, Vladimir Putin, agreed to adopt a mission of African leaders, which deals with the issue of a peaceful settlement of the war in Ukraine.
This was stated by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa following the negotiations with the heads of both countries, writes CGTN Europe.
"I spoke with the President of Russia, Volodymyr Putin, and the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, and they agree to accept a mission from African leaders regarding a potential peace plan for their conflict," he said.
According to Sky News, Syrel Ramaphosa held separate discussions with Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyi about the plan, during which both presidents agreed to welcome the group.
"Whether it succeeds or not will depend on the discussions that will be held," Ramaphosa said.
As reported, according to the US Ambassador to South Africa Ruben Brighetti, in December of last year, South Africa supplied Russia with ammunition along with weapons using a ship that docked at the Simonstown Naval Base in Cape Town.
On May 14, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyі, spoke with the President of South Africa and warned about the consequences of friendship with the Russian dictator, Vladimir Putin.
