The Russian air carrier "Azimut" will be able to make direct flights from Moscow to Tbilisi from May 17 after the Georgian aviation regulator granted it the appropriate permission.
This was announced by the head of the Civil Aviation Authority of Georgia Givi Davitashvili on the air of the "Imedi" TV channel on Monday.
According to Davitashvili, already five airlines - both Russian and Georgian - have submitted applications to the air regulator of Georgia to operate direct flights between the two countries.
"One of them has already been checked, namely Azimuth, which will be able to operate flights from May 17. Today, the Civil Aviation Authority of Georgia issued the corresponding permit," he announced.
The head of the regulator emphasized that no Russian company under sanctions will receive permission to fly to Georgia; planes that have been discontinued by the manufacturer will also not be allowed.
